Stupendous Students

Four SAW students (along with four violinists from MYSO) performed  the first movement of the J.S. Bach double violin concerto with the MSO on an ACE concert March 25th, 1993. These SAW students were: David Ammon, Kelly Chmielewski, Andy Hsu, and Cathy Jang.

Eliza Hamner won the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition and will perform the Samuel Barber Violin Concerto with the orchestra on June 2, 1993. Katharine Gorsuch and Rachel Bienemann were finalists in the MSO Young Artists Competition, and Jonathan Landis received an honorable mention.

Rachel Bienemann received second place in the Mid-West Regional Irish Wendell Viola Award Competition as well as a special MacDowell Club Youth Encouragement Award.

Meghan McGowan was this year’s winner of the Catholic Symphony Orchestra Competition. Next November she will perform Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole with the orchestra.

The 1993 SAW Concerto competition winners are Phillip Springman (Vivaldi Violin Concerto in a minor), Kendra Kreutz (Vivaldi Cello Concerto in e minor) and Katharine Gorsuch (Vivaldi “Summer” from The Seasons). All students will be performing with the String Academy Chamber Orchestra.

Richard Kim, viola, was a finalist in the MYSO senior concerto competition. He performed Bloch’s Suite Hebraique on a recital concert March 1. Meghan McGowan was a winner in MYSO’s Philharmonia competition with the Mozart G major Violin Concerto and will be performing with that orchestra on May 16. Cathy Jang was first alternate winner in the Sinfonia division, and Kelly Chmielewski and Jeannette Jang were winners in the String Orchestra Division. They will perform on April 8th.
