2011 SAW Violin Competition Winners

Concerto in A minor (1st mvt.) – A. Vivaldi

Abigail Schneider Abigail Schneider has been studying violin with Katherine Brooks for six years and is a member of the String Academy of Wisconsin’s Advanced Violin Ensemble.  Abigail was one of the winners of this year’s MSO Bach Double Competition.  She also has received an Honorable Mention in MYSO’s Concerto Competitions the past two years. Abigail plays in the orchestra at Elmbrook Church and Greendale Middle School, where she is an eighth grader.  Last year, she received a first rating at State Solo & Ensemble.  Abigail loves reading, writing, and animals, especially her yellow lab, Nellie.

Concerto in G Major (1st mvt.) – F.J. Haydn

Wentong Zhang Wentong Zhang was born in Changsha, China and moved to the United States at the age of 2.  He first began his violin studies in Pittsburgh.  In 2004, he began studying at the String Academy of Wisconsin with Darcy Drexler and is a member of the Violin Virtuosi. Wentong is a freshman at Whitefish Bay High School and participates on the Math Team.  He also enjoys playing tennis.  Wentong would like to major in engineering at college and plans to play the violin for a long time.
