Kartik Papatla to Perform With Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra

Congratulations to Kartik Papatla, cellist and student of Scott Cook at the String Academy!  Kartyk is the winner of the 2012 Young Artist Competition and will be soloing with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra on Wednesday.  More information can be found at the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra website.

Kartik Papatla is currently a sophomore at Homestead High School in Mequon, Wisconsin.  He has been studying the cello with Scott Cook at the String Academy of Wisconsin since the age of six.  Through the String Academy, Kartik has had the privilege of participating in several master classes with accomplished cellists such as Helga Winold, Joseph Johnson, Johannes Moser, and Wendy Warner.  Kartik has also been a member of the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra since 2005 and is currently the Assistant Principal of the Senior Symphony ensemble.  During his musical career, Kartik has participated in several competitions.  He won numerous honorable mentions in MYSO competitions and was named the winner of MYSO’s Philharmonia Concerto Competition in 2009.  He was also the winner of the Wisconsin division of the 2011 American String Teachers Association National Solo Competition.  As a freshman last year, Kartik competed in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition for the first time and was selected as a finalist.  In December, he was named a semi-finalist in the 2012 Madison Symphony Orchestra Bolz Young Artist Competition and won an honorable mention in the UWM Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition.  He also won an honorable mention in the MYSO Senior Symphony Concerto Competition earlier this year.  Most recently, Kartik was a winner in this year’s Civic Music Association of Milwaukee’s High School Showcase and one of three winners of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition.  In March, he soloed with the MSO at the Audrey G. Baird “Stars of Tomorrow” concert.  Besides music, Kartik also participates in forensics at Homestead.   One of Kartik’s other interests is travelling, particularly to historical sites.  He traveled with the Homestead High School Symphony Orchestra to St. Petersburg and Helsinki in April and will be performing in Vienna and Prague with MYSO in July.

  • I actually saw Kartik with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra at this performance over the summer, and Kartik and the entire orchestra were fabulous! Kartik, as a sophomore in high school, has just amazing talent. Great to see this opportunity for him, and I am sure he has continued his success this past fall.

    Looking forward to hearing more good things about Kartik!
