Student News
- Katharine Gorsuch spent her Christmas vacation playing in the New York String Seminar. The orchestra was conducted by Jaime Laredo with the violin soloist, Isaac Stern. She was selected from students all over the country.
- Eleven SAW students from the SAW Chamber Orchestra spent December 2 and 3 in Bloomington, IN, at Indiana University making a television program for National Public TV. The show is part of a series of programs entitled Musical Encounters and was hosted by Corey Cerovsek. The Chamber Orchestra performed Summer from Vivaldi’s Four Season with Corey. The program will be released this summer.
- Eleanor Fregni composed the music for Milwaukee Youth Theater’s October 1993 production of “Pied Piper of Hamlin,” Gabriel Torpe, Director.
- Erica Smith won the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Young Artist Competition and will perform the first movement of the Bruch Violin Concerto in G Minor with the UWM orchestra on February 12, 1994.
- Anna Fritz, upon graduation, from Roosevelt Middle School of the Arts last Spring, received the Director’s Award for Orchestra.
- SAW alumni Sarah Kim spent her Christmas vacation performing in Russia. She performed the Dvorak Concerto with the Samara Philharmonic Orchestra and Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso five times in Moscow and Samara.
- SAW alumni Jeannie Kim is in her third year at Harvard and is the president of the Harvard Orchestra.
